Well, it seems that the now somewhat dated Ion Google has finally made an official successor – Google has just announced the Nexus One developer is the new phone. It remains apparently unchanged from the recently axed consumer model, however, and Google notes that it comes with Android 2.1, but Android 2.2 will soon after you turn it on. Have your developer credentials at hand? Then you can log in and get you in the right order now for $ 529.
Update: We just had a look at the specs on the site developer of Google and it seems that the Nexus range is unfortunately only a T-Mobile. Watch the indicator bands for yourself after the break.
Update 2: The specs indicate that the device has “no root access” and that the bootloader is closed, but we take this mean it’s no different than any other Nexus One would buy. More ominous, but it says that fast boat turned on, which leads us to wonder whether this will lead to problems with the bootloader unlocked in the field. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Thanks, Carson!
