Nokia’s prepping for the fourth quarter launch of its smartphone MeeGo. N8 will hit before the end of Q3. The company has absolutely no plans to use Android, and a tablet not happen anytime soon. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the things we learned this morning during our interesting chat with Niklas Savander, Espoo’s executive vice president and general manager of the unit Markets. In its quarterly profit to fall and lose a day (in Mindshare, at least) to the apples, HTC and Motorola’s of the world, we were certainly not lacking any questions when we headed into the meeting, and Savander to our questions about Nokia’s short-and long-term plans to move. We presented the main points of the interview with bullets after the break – and the full transcript after that.
Can you believe we have waited long enough for the N8 (at least) three versions Kirf to the network on the market? The latter is a very special, because it gives us a glimpse into one of the feverish dream of Engadget commenters: rocking a Nokia flagship Android (2.1, in this case). IZiNN the CJ-3 copies of the N8 form factor, styling and 3.5-inch screen, but throws an upgrade of its own to pursue a higher-res 800 x 480 capacitive panel. Yes, we are shocked. A 5-megapixel imager, a budget Rock Chip CPU, and an HDMI port, complete the rest of the specs are known, while a release in China is expected some time later this month. Anyone know why this thing is built and sold by a legitimate manufacturer?
Of course it seems. What you want is here on the leaked photos of the C7 front (top) compared to the label diagram of a model code RM-718, which won FCC approval, quadband EDGE, HSPA 850 / AWS / 1900 / 2100, Bluetooth, and WiFi – and if you ask us, the similarities are a bit too numerous to ignore. As a refresher course, this eventually stabbing in just under the mighty N8, while still more than 640 x 360 screen and Symbian ^ 3, so it should be a good cheaper alternative … You know, if anodized aluminum scales are not your cup of tea.
Update: On second glance, the adaptation of the controls and headphone jack on the top edge does not seem to line up perfectly with the spy shots we’ve seen, and this might be a bit more squared around the edges. Hard to say – but if not the C7, makes you wonder what it is how the muscular 3G radio.
Say what you like about Nokia’s strategy (or lack thereof), but there is no denying that the N900 is a gaming machine state. So it makes perfect sense for the guys at Game Gripper controller to a specific template for that very handset, no? We already have a fair amount spent too much time with our made-for-droid edition, and if you are looking for your enjoyment when playing the level of NES ROMs to promote, you can pre-order toss in this very second. The company offering the full game Gripper N900 for € 14.95 ($ 20) or the Set button for only € 3.95 ($ 5), with first deliveries expected in about two weeks. Head on past the break for a taste of that said Mario action.
