The locks are open, and has grown in another country – although, unlike Saudi Arabia, India and the UAE, this is not an imminent ban BlackBerry messaging … yet. Kuwait has announced that it has asked RIM to go with “moral and safety concerns” – namely, the blocking of pornographic sites – and that RIM has asked for four months to comply. Meanwhile, deadline-driven local server from Saudi Arabia are reportedly testing proceeds rapidly, three servers, one for each of the national cellular carrier, must “meet the statutory requirements” of the country by Monday.
RIM averts Saudi Arabia’s BlackBerry messaging ban, negotiates surrender (update: 48-hour ultimatum)
It took two long years for India (alleged) tap BlackBerry traffic, but Saudi Arabia can not be too long to wait that long, the Wall Street Journal reports that RIM has all but agreed to set up a local server in the country. Although we have no details about what the deal entails, an unnamed official said Saudi Telecom Negotiations are already in the final stages. Sorry, RIM, but it seems that Saudi Arabia called you bluff. We assume the company will deny any spying for the government very soon … and both Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates will start planning their own attempts to wrest away control. We’ll let you know where this house of cards falls.
Update: Saudi Arabia has reportedly seen its three national cellular carriers 48 hours to try out solutions suggested that “legal requirements” of the country to meet, otherwise the BlackBerry messaging ban will take effect as originally planned.
